While the whole country is facing an economic slowdown, Bollywood was not in the mood of going down, in the year 2019 Bollywood registered around 8 to 9 % revenue growth over the past year. So welcome to our blog, in this particular category we will see some blogs related to the entertainment industry of India. In year 2019, 18 films crossed the mark of 100 cr, with two 300 cr+ movies. In this blog, we are going to see how Bollywood has performed In the 1st quarter of 2019 i.e. from January to April released movies. 2019 start with Thalaiva Rajni sir’s Petta and two movies inspired by real-life incident one is Uri the surgical strike and another is biopic of former Pm, Dr. Manmohan Singh. Uri got exceptional unbelievable success with a worldwide collection of 341 cr. It becomes an all-time blockbuster, in the last week of the same month 2 more biopics got released, one was Manikarnika and another was Thackeray (based on the founder of Shiv Sena, Balasaheb Thackeray). Both film’s lead got appreciation from critics but failed to perform in the box office as expected. February started with the novel concept through ‘Ek ladki ko dekha toh aisha laga’, based on the LGBTQ community but failed to perform. But next week’s solo released to become an official entry for Oscar from India. Yes, I’m talking about Zoya Akhtar’s gully boy. Gully Boy is a perfect example of great content, great cast, great execution, great album. Total dhamaal released next week. Both have a different target audience and performed well as expected but content-wise gully boy was good. March starts with quirky comedy Luka chuppi and critically acclaimed but becomes a disaster in Box office ‘Sonchiriya’. Next week very talented director Sujoy Ghosh comes with a great cast containing Sir Bachhan and Tapsee in it, Badla proved super hit and got appreciation also. Much awaited movie on Battle of Saraghari, Kesari released and also performed well. But another unique concept movie got trashed in a clash with Akshay Kumar. I’m Talking about Vasan Bala directed ‘Mard ko Dard Nahi Hota’. It has a different target audience, in the end, it becomes successful in the OTT platform Netflix. The movie got needed appreciation from critics as well as the targeted audience. Other movies released in march were Nawaz’s Photograph, Junglee, and Salman Khan production’s Notebook. All three didn’t perform in the box office. At the end of the first quarter of 2019, John Abraham brought much delayed Romeo Akbar Walter, a cross border spy thriller, they recovered cost plus made some profit also through it. But People were waiting for a big-budget movie with a huge star cast ‘Kalank’. The buzz was very high, the trailer got appreciation, the album becomes blockbuster but the movie become disaster when it was released in theaters. Producer bears huge losses from it. Special mention here for small budget film, but hit film ‘The Tashkent files’. A movie made with a great cast and great story with real location and much-needed research also. Overall people have seen some great movie with great cast but got disappointed with the failure of Kalank but the loss of theater owners covered by Hollywood movie ‘Avengers: End game’. Yes, that’s the end of the first quarter. Stay connected for remaining quarters with interesting facts and figures.
